Can you skip scenes in ffx

Another franchise that put a big emphasis on the non-interactive cut-scene was and still is Metal Gear Solid. They were telling a story. Of course, some of the cut-scenes went on a bit long; I still remember the whining associated with Xenosaga , which featured several minute cut-scenes.

Even when Final Fantasy X came out, there were a few who complained, although the majority still loved the game. It was also important to note that the vast majority of cut-scenes in that game were no more than a few minutes in length.

These days, however, it seems gamers can't sit still for thirty seconds , let alone a few consecutive minutes. Recently, developer Sucker Punch was asked to explain why the cut-scenes in their acclaimed new title, inFamous: Second Son , are unskippable. They said such cut-scenes were used for various loading and setting purposes , so they can't be skipped. My first and only question concerning this news is above. If you added up the total number of interactive gameplay minutes and compared them to the total number of non-interactive gameplay minutes, the ratio would be ridiculous.

All told, you're almost never "just sitting there. People can't even sit through a few cut-scenes, none of which are even remotely as long as cut-scenes used to be. That's just incomprehensible to me. The games were, according to many, story-driven RPGs that relied on those cut-scenes. Without them, you have no idea what's going on or why, nor do you get to know the characters.

See, that's back when people actually had to write and develop characters for RPGs; they didn't give the player the freedom to just be whatever he or she wanted. And you know, the cut-scenes aren't that long.

They're just not. Again, if you compare the cut-scene time to the actual gameplay time, it's obvious: At a bare minimum, it'll probably take 35 hours or so to finish FFX, and there really aren't more than 90 minutes of cut-scenes in the entire game, if that. If you really want to fully experience the adventure, it'll be closer to hours, anyway. These are games that hinge upon the cut-scene.

Making them skippable defeats the purpose of the game; if you have to skip cut-scenes, don't bother. Games are much faster and flashier than they've ever been. If you think about it, so is all of our entertainment. Camera angles continue to frantically switch viewpoints, dialogue sequences lasting longer than a minute put people to sleep, and we need larger, louder, more visceral imagery to keep the viewer entertained.

Attention deficit seems to be running amok, and a great example of the necessity to constantly be moving is the immense success of online multiplayer shooters. There are no cut-scenes there and if developers tried, I have a bad feeling some gamers would have some sort of breakdown.

I'm just wondering if it's getting increasingly difficult for gamers - and anyone who does a lot of video entertainment these days - to sit still for any length of time. To simply sit and watch without receiving some sort of stimulus that goes beyond dialogue. To appreciate a beautifully drawn world, an interesting cast of characters, or merely that particular virtual situation.

If we're losing all patience, what exactly will our games look like in the near future? Web Twitter Facebook. Tags cut scenes gaming culture gaming industry video game cut scenes. Published Apr. The word record for ffx is If you love the game, like I do, played it hundreds of times casual and speedruning cutscens are only pain and not a second thing.

FFX's story is nice yes but you know what's nicer? The gameplay. I want to be able to replay the game without being able. It deserves the criticism.

FFX's cutscene time versus the overall game time is not long - but each cutscene can be pretty long. Take for example the Yunalesca fight that plays everytime you lose and have to fight her again. What do you need help on?

You are playing RPGs for the wrong reasons if not being able to skip cutscenes is an issue for you. The first one is a minor skip with a short cutscene with Shelinda.

The player has to glide on a walking NPC near to the end of the first area on the Highroad and talk to him just when the cutscene takes place. The second glitch glitches the audio. When visiting the Rin's Travel Agency for the first time, the player must talk to Rin , and while the text box is on, exit the Travel Agency, causing the cutscene with Rin to take place while the option-box to rest appears on screen.

When the player chooses the option to rest, the cutscene continues on the background, but the audio starts glitching. The player can decide to rest again and again while the cutscene takes place but can't exit the agency.

The cutscene with Rin is followed by the fight against Chocobo Eater but the audio remains glitched. The gameplay will remain fine, albeit with small graphical glitches. A hard reset will fix the situation. Talking to an NPC just before Clasko runs and starts the cutscene will skip it. Just before the area with the Djose Temple, Lucil is riding a chocobo.

The player needs to breach Lucil's way when she's approaching the temple and talk to her, which, if done correctly, glides Tidus towards the area with the cutscene. When the cutscene begins the player has to skip Lucil's text box and so the player can move Tidus wherever they want during the cutscene. If moved towards the other road next to the one leading to the temple during the cutscene, the player can skip Djose Temple.

This means the player won't get Ixion. After visiting the Farplane in Guadosalam, the player should view a cutscene in front of Seymour's mansion before entering the Thunder Plains. However, the player can first go view a short cutscene with Kimahri when entering one of the shops in Guadosalam. Going in front of the shop's door and talking with an NPC causes a forthcoming guado NPC to stumble upon Tidus, causing the shop's door to open and the cutscene with Kimahri to start.

If done correctly, the player can now move to Thunder Plains next to the guado who would normally guard and prohibit entering the plains. They don;t need to be asked, cutscene skipping has been almost a stable in every JRPG ever since and after.

It's not really hard to do so and would've been helpful for the players so they won't sit through the same 10 minutes of cutscenes everytime they had to redo a boss battle.

Well KHFM technically had the feature in place. X did not. Yeah, it seems very simple, but unfortunately we do not have an answer. Kinda like we don't have one for auto-battle and music player in FF3.

Yeah but also in the original KHFinal Mix on Ps2 you can't skip a cutscene unless you've seen said cutscene once I imported that and played it years ago so I'm not lying. And even then that doesn't change the fact that they should've added the option to skip cutscenes regardless of it not being there. This is and almost all RPGs in the market except for a select few gives you the option to skip the cutscenes.

And regardless of what you've mentioned, that doesn't change the fact that it's reaaaaaaaaaaally easy to code the option into the game. You forget they lost all the assets, that may have played a part.

Who knows. We won't ever know. It's easy to code auto-battle into FF3 as well. But yeah, nothing we can do about it. Just be good at the game and you don't have to worry. And even THEN,they could've programmed it my point still stands, same as auto-battle but that isn't an annoyance compared to not being able to skip a 10 minutes cutscene.

Also I'm good at the game otherwise I wouldn't have got there but that doesn't change the fact that it's annoying to go through when you lose against a boss They did lose the assets for FFX. I feel like auto-battle being left out is an annoyance in a grind heavy game.

Again, yes, they should have added it, but they have not and we have no reason why same for FF3 as a prime example.
