This is his debut novel, envisioned by his friend and batch-mate, Mohammad Aqueeb. Balakrishnan and Indian Student Parliament,Pune for his literary works. Here is my journey about how first-year at IIM Lucknow was a grueling experience for me.
Convocation time The tension and excitement are almost palpable in the air as students some of the best minds of the country eagerly await validation of their two years of hard work. Yes, it was convocation time. As I see my seniors sitting in their graduation outfit, smiling with a tinge of nostalgia and looking at the convocation ground one last time, my mind flashes back to my own year at IIM Lucknow, or what we proudly call as Hell.
I remember letting out a whoop of joy as I saw my admission letter, and I remember fantasizing about what my life would be like in the next two years. However, nothing could have prepared me for whatever was there in store for me. I remember walking through the gates for the first time and we were greeted by our alums who trusted us with the legacy of the institute. Then I entered my classroom with my name printed at the front of the seat. The professor conducted a surprise quiz in class and proudly received collective groans.
I remember chasing ridiculous deadlines and staying up till late night in the night mess completing a project. Also, I remember how I got introduced to some people who have always had my back. The whole junior and senior and junior batch comes together for the placement process. The campus infrastructure is in place and always up-to-date, keeping in mind the student and faculty requirements. The food provision at mess is appreciated across all IIM campuses. Equal importance is given to pursuing extra curricular activities along with academics.
It is just great. Has a great mix of teachers and peers. Posted on 29 Aug' 16 by Anik. The scenic beauty of the college is great and since it's outside the city it has clean air and makes it an awesome place to live. As it is one of the premiers IIMs the alumni forms a great part and makes the college even more renowned.
The hostels had the adequate supply of everything and the peer group are great. My journey in Hell Loving it. Posted on 27 Aug' 16 by Shashank.

The college has all the facility that an MBA student would aspire for from a college, not only the awesome classroom but recreational facilities of all sort. The college does hold multiple talks with the industry experts but score less compared to college situated in Mumbai or Gurgaon due to location, multiple live projects on your own can helo this. The college life is awesome because of the pace at which things happen, this not only makes you do things which are expected but somehow you learn to do more, which you won't do in peaceful structure.
You learn much more about yourself, your strength and weakness. The placements received are from all the big names that you can think of. The college provides one sitter hostel with all the facilities of cleaners n all. The student crowd is from all sections of society, from all kind of prior experience making it a learning experience. The infrastructure at IIML is one of the best i have seen with focus on enhancing each and every aspect of a student, be it on the academic front or the extra curricular front.
The faculty here try and impart learning by giving real time and related industry examples. My Experience. Posted on 22 Oct' 15 by Deepak. But yes if you are looking for a B-school which gives you value addition in terms of Knowledge, Co-curricular and Extra-Curricular activities, then this is the place to be in. We all at IIML are proud of a community which excels in helping each other as and when we need it can any other institute boast of this.
A short span of time and we are already right behind the leader to snatch that position from him in the rankings of B-school. Great learning experience. The interaction with the batch mates were really useful.
People from different fields had come in. The infrastructure was world class. Academic rigor was also good though only a handful of professors were able to grab the students' attention Infrastructure.

Many a times working professionals couldn't live their dreams of studying in IIM's for 2 years because of the opportunity cost that is attached wit their job. The weekly virtual classes helped me learn while working. Also, it doesn't hinder your work thus it becomes really very useful and handy to take up this program.
Posted on 17 Oct' 15 by Nikhail. IIML has a great alumni network. This is the 4rth oldest IIM and 27 batches of managers have graduated out of its gates most of whom are now the decision makers in big corporate houses. Alumni strength is not only decided by how old the institute is but also by the collective cohesiveness among the alumni and the current students and I wish to say out loud that we excel in this department.
The word had gained a new dimension at IIML. It stood for recognition, a C. The 20 plus committees of campus highlighted only the former aspect in an effort to woo prospects and it worked like magic — I knew of people who applied to each and every one of them without even knowing what some of the acronyms stood for.
I had been actively involved in the cultural events of my graduation college and had assumed leadership roles in the organizing committees therein. Such a qualification would make me an automatic choice for the principal committees Placecom, Manfest, Index , I thought. This thought was upheld and further strengthened when the results of the first round of the selection process were announced. I was alive in all the six committees that I had applied to which comprised the three principal committees and three others.
The next round was crucial — the task round. From my early conversations with seniors I had formed a perception of tasks as nightmarish monsters which feed on and devour time and push the people involved to the limits of endurance. Every word of it was true. For a PGP 1 the first few weeks are anyways unsettling and these tasks add to the turbulence. But the incentive is worth the effort put in and the stress involved in the pursuit.
The disappointment of not making it despite making the tasks as intrinsic to your daily routine as brushing your teeth is truly overshadowed. What about the self doubts that creep in?
I knew I had been thrust with the opportunity to explore this situation when my name did not figure in the lists of the three principal committees. I had made it to one all right - the Student Exchange Committee — but it could by no means mask my anguish. I felt like I had hit a nadir right away and it made me revisit my original fear. Every institution, profession or discipline has a set of terms unique to itself which serves as a common language among its practitioners or members.
The common word for it is terminology or jargon. Management probably tops the list when it comes to this. It is an art, a science, a paradigm, a necessity, a panacea, a trait all in one and manifests itself in every aspect of B school life. You can classify courses based on the degree of globe: Marketing is globe, Finance is not, Strategy is structured globe, Ops is less globe but the truly global subject is HR. Even this very personal account is a work of globe.
When we talk of people some people are better endowed than others with this critical ability. I consider myself to be among the more fortunate. A crucial take out from a B school is supposed to be the ability to function effectively in teams. With this noble purpose as the backdrop professors took the liberty of making our groups in most of the courses in first year.
As expected there was a sense of resentment at not being able to form groups with people we knew. But the worst was yet to come — working with people we knew only too well.
By the end of first term they had become so well known that they found themselves isolated when group formation was left to the students. An important aspect of group activity is meetings. They are supposed to be the arena for group dynamics and a learning ground for team building. That may be ideologically true but by the end of the first term we found them unnecessary. They never yielded anything substantial and even if they did the output could never do justice to the amount of time spent in the meeting or the amount of time involved in actually organizing such a meet.
Being stuck in a group with someone you despise was not a problem anymore. Professionalism stealthily made its way into our lives. It is the supreme end, a culmination, a destination which makes the journey of education seem worthwhile.
In a B school if you establish a link between any activity or thing and placements you would surely find many takers for the activity. I think a wonderful insight for brand managers exists therein. October is the right time to observe the flurry of activities — the innumerable forms, the variety of globe answers, the C.
This tension reaches its crescendo when the shortlist of Slot 1 is displayed on the Placecom notice board. Inching my way through the anxious crowd I discovered that I was among the fortunate few to have a fair number of shortlists. Whether it was because of my previous academic record or my extra curricular pursuits I do not know. If you get the picture that the tension prior to placements is immense let me tell you that it is just a precursor to what one experiences in the next four days.
As for the interviews, they are tailor made for the globe gods. Anyways after brushing away my disappointment at not having made it to a Slot 1 company I was chosen to be a summer associate with Cadbury India Ltd. It was a decent company and I had no qualms whatsoever. After being through the placement process I secretly hoped that I would not have to go through the ordeal again.
It was time to launch Operation PPI. I hit upon a master plan.
