Dan: Back? He disowned his parents and went around the world. It makes complete sense that he would want to vent out his frustrations through an anonymous, vicious portal and publicly shame them. In the season 3 finale, Serena and Dan sleep together even though they are both committed to other people. Dan was dating Vanessa and Serena was seeing Nate. The only other person at the station who was a part of the storyline is Dan, who obviously knew who Serena was.
Why would Dan out himself as a cheater and a liar? In Season 4 especially, he posts a picture of him kissing Blair. They were just faking it but the whole thing made it rough for Dan and caused a rift between him and Serena.
Fan have later wondered why Dan would do something so cruel to Serena Turns out he had enough reasons to do so, as he was torn between his feelings for Vanessa and Serena at that point. But he was probably also peeved that Serena and Nate had gotten together, since Nate is his best friend and Serena will always be the one person he will love. The blast was in a way, a means of settling scores for Dan.
